Planning to teach a class
Planning to teach a class is quite time consuming and can be difficult for many teachers. Using the curriculum a teacher must find the right text book, use resources, decide on the content, plan activities and design assessment tasks for their students. I believe the first step to developing a good lesson plan is to figure out the goals of the course. Once the goals are set then a teacher can branch out and create materials, attendance policies, assignments/projects and a day to day schedule of the topics. Deciding on things such as absences and late work should also be brought into consideration. Planning out these things before creating lessons will be helpful throughout the semester/s if a problem occurs. Once the so called ‘class plan’ is in place, a teacher can then use the topics to be learnt to create class lessons. Each lesson should contain objectives, skill based activities and assessments to make sure that learning took place in the lesson. I feel that if these steps are followed for planning a lesson, most teachers will find that their lessons will run smooth and conductively and their students will achieve relatively good learning behaviours. Creating a lesson also needs to work together with teaching strategies and skills such as behaviour/classroom management and learning strategies. As I move closer into the teaching world, I will incorporate these ideas and skills into my teaching to increase learning in my students and enhance their knowledge of IT.
